Promotion of Countermeasures to Global Warming

NSSMC recognizes climate change as a priority problem that may threaten survival of the human race. Adverse change of the climate may cause serious damage to the global environment. NSSMC’s business environment and earnings may also be affected. In order to make our operation sustainable, we promote energy conservation and CO2 emissions reduction throughout the entire supply chain: manufacturing, transportation, and final use of products. We also undertake initiatives to improve energy efficiency in order to alleviate impact from climate change. From a medium- to long-term perspective to reduce CO2 emissions, we actively work on innovative technology development and transfer of established technology to overseas steel makers.

From the time of the first oil crisis until around 1990, Nippon Steel intensively promoted continuous processing, exhaust heat recovery, and other measures, that enabled significant energy conservation.

NSSMC is taking on a challenge in the form of the “CO2 Ultimate Reduction in Steelmaking Process by Innovative Technology Project,” in addition to making efforts to reduce CO2 by conserving energy at steelworks.

Technical cooperation and transfer promoted on a worldwide scale

Technical cooperation and transfer promoted on a worldwide scale

NSSMC is participating in many energy-saving and environmental initiatives in Japan and overseas. For example, we work with the World Steel Association, the GSEP (Global Superior Energy Performance Partnership), or directly with countries such as China, South Korea, and India.
